Description
The Antonio candleholder was conceived in 2019 as part of Harry’s Applied Portraiture project.
Each unique Applied Portrait is scanned from life, and the first collection, launched at Design Miami in 2019 was called Portrait Vessels. The project referenced portraiture, from classical busts to selfies, and employed decorative arts typologies often associated with human form. Theses first pieces were 3D printed directly in ceramic.
The Antonio Candleholder is Harry first full body scan and when he first made it he thought he might 3D print it in metal. Until he got the price. That is something he still aspires to, but when he started slip-casting he saw another way forward. The piece is scanned form life, modelled digitally to make it castable, 3D printed in parts, and cast in 9 separate molds
Antonio’s style is inimitable, and translated well through the casting process. Antonio is one of Harry’s best friends, a hairdresser by training and a very talented ceramicist in his own right. And now Antonio is available to hold your candlesticks, and flowers with his very talented hands. Each Antonio Candle stick comes with both a candlestick holder and a vase.
The broader concept behind Harry’s Applied Portraiture project is to bring the human form to design. It’s something that was done historically but has fallen out of favor in recent times. Harry has taken to scanning friends and family as examples of this work. He cherishes these pieces. And of course he would like to extend this joy to everyone. To this end we are accepting commissions to create custom Applied Portraiture candlestick holders. And we can explore other products as well.
